The Usual Hangout

Oil on canvas, 18x12”, 2023. A semi-surreal elaboration on an old photograph depicting my Paternal Grandfather, my brother, and myself sitting on the old GMC truck that still runs today–all on our then-bustling family farm. This painting is more of an exploration of technical application and how the idea of emotion affects the perception of memory throughout time; the textures and patterning of color are exaggerated and unrealistic, similar to the memory.

Beginning of Echelon

Oil on board, 48x18”, 2023. As the birds begin to make their formation, the air surrounding them is transformed into visual waves amplified by the natural lines of the wood; resurrecting scenes of nature within a substance destroyed in order for the image to be made. An exploration into the natural patterns of wood grain and how imagery can be captured within—changing the idea of how one looks at a piece of wood, the mundane into an intuitive puzzle game.

Untitled (Fake Eve)

Oil on board, 26x12”, 2022. My first try at an oil painting constructed within my own terms, to understand how the medium works without the help of a class. The main takeaway for me is the use of texture and the idea of a limited palette. Meant to be a play on the ‘doom’ Eve cast on the entire human race due to her one time of weakness.
